Twelve years ago, soon after our community network began, a post went out about two Alsatians on the loose. A member rushed out to help. The dogs were quickly reunited with their owners  but the real rescue was still ahead.

On her way home, she spotted two pit bull crosses chained outside a pet shop with heavy locks. They were painfully thin. After speaking to the owners, she learned the dogs had been used for dog fighting and had been left with people who could not care for them.

With patience and compassion, she convinced them to surrender the dogs.

The female found a loving home where she became a deeply treasured companion. The male, who others were hesitant to take in, was welcomed into the rescuer’s own home. With veterinary care, good food, and love, both dogs slowly healed gaining weight, safety, and the chance to finally live the lives they deserved.

All because one community member stopped, cared, and acted.

A small puppy was hit by a car and left for dead. A member of our community posted for help, and within minutes another rushed her to the vet. Her injuries were severe  a broken hip and a shattered front leg.

As she fought to recover, the community rallied. Posters were placed in shopping centres, vets were contacted, and authorities were notified, but no owner ever came forward.

The vet bills grew, and no single person was responsible for them. So the community stepped in. Little by little, members contributed, following regular updates from the vet, until every last cent was paid.

Meanwhile, one member shared Bella’s story at her office. A colleague stepped forward, passed a home check, and welcomed the pup into her home.

Today Bella lives in Rivonia on a large property with two dog siblings. After months of rehabilitation and aqua therapy, she made a full recovery now running, swimming, and living the joyful life she almost never had.

The local vet contacted one of the members of the group regarding a difficult situation. A fellow community member had brought in her beautiful Jack Russell/Terrier cross, but was unfortunately unable to cover the cost of euthanasia.

The dog had a severe growth, and the vets advised that the kindest and most compassionate option was to let him go peacefully and relieve him from his pain.

By coincidence, another member of the group happened to be at the clinic with her own pup that day and ended up being the last person there. The pup was quietly waiting his turn, so she stayed with him and sat by his side until he passed peacefully, ensuring he did not face that moment alone.

The vet bill was shared with the community, and the response was overwhelming. Members came together, contributing generously, and the full amount was successfully covered.

In this case, the loving decision was made to free him from his suffering.

This story is a reminder of the incredible compassion and care within the community, proving that when people come together, even the hardest moments can be met with support and kindness.
